Fire Safety Tips
There are three kinds of fires: handling each one the right way will help keep the flames from spreading. For the best protection, purchase a multi-purpose, dry-chemical extinguisher rated for A, B and C fires. Hang it in your kitchen in an easily accessible place away from the stove. Fires have a greater chance of starting in your kitchen than anywhere else in your home.
If your clothes are burning, immediately drop to the ground and roll back & forth quickly.
If the fire is large or spreading fast, evacuate the residence immediately, then call emergency (911) to report the fire from a safe location.
Do NOT go back into a burning residence to retrieve possessions or property; these can be replaced. Your life cannot.
For fires on wood, paper, & cloth, use water or a Class A fire extinguisher to douse flames.
If fat or grease or oil in a pan starts burning, quickly slide a lid over the pan to cover it completely to cut off the oxygen supply. Turn off the heat.
Do NOT put water on a grease/fat/oil fire.
For small grease fires, throw baking soda over the flames or use a Class B fire extinguisher.
For electrical fires, throw baking soda over the flames or use a Class C fire extinguisher.
If you have a fire in your oven, close the oven door & turn off heat to smother the flames.
In general, try to put out a fire if it is small. But if the flames begin spreading, do NOT remain in the kitchen or residence. Call 911 once you are in a safe place.
To prevent fires, always keep your stove, oven & range hood clean and free from grease, and avoid overloading outlets or circuits with too many appliances.
To use a fire extinguisher, pull the pin to release the lock, aim the nozzle at the base of the fire, and sweep from side to side while squeezing the handle.
NEVER use water on a grease or oil fire or an electrical fire. The grease will splatter, making the fire spread even more. Water on an electrical fire can cause serious shocks.
Do NOT turn on the stove’s exhaust fan if there is a fire. This could spread the flames into the walls of the house.
Always monitor fires in the fireplace carefully.
Never leave candles burning unattended. Never burn candles near flammable materials.
Make sure cigarettes/cigars/pipes are completely extinguished. Do not drop them on ground.
Make sure that you have adequate Renter’s Insurance. You will be held financially liable if you are found to be at fault for fire damages.
Call 911 IMMEDIATELY if you see a fire.
Water Conservation
Even though Falls Lake has been filled back up due to recent rainfall, the state is still under drought conditions and we don't know what the summer will bring. Please remember that we all need to continue to make an effort to reduce the consumption of water.
Should you have an issue with leaking or dripping fixtures, please report to our rental office as soon as possible.
Below is a list of water conservation tips to help minimize consumption:
•Turn off water while lathering, shampooing, shaving, and brushing your teeth.
•Plug the bathtub before turning the water on, and then adjust the temperature as the tub fills up.
•Take showers instead of baths.
•Time your shower to keep it as short as possible.
•Commode flushes should be limited as much as possible.
•Run washing machines & dishwashers only with full loads to maximize efficiency.
•Use a pan of water in the sink and re-use the water as long as possible to rinse dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.
•When washing dishes by hand, fill one sink with wash water and the other with rinse water.
•When washing dishes by hand, use the least amount of detergent as possible. This minimizes rinse water needed.
•Keep a pitcher of water in the refrigerator instead of running the tap for cold drinks.
•Don’t defrost frozen foods with running water. Either plan ahead by placing frozen items in the refrigerator overnight or defrost them in the microwave.
•Don’t let the faucet run while you clean vegetables. Rinse them in a filled sink or pan.
